If you have been banned it is usually for a just reason.
AWOL admins are highly trusted. For your appeal to be successful you must prove it with sufficient evidence. Word of mouth is not sufficient.
Once an admin has commented on his/her actions and have decided whether to keep the ban in place or drop it the thread will be closed.
When starting an appeal you agree that once the admin has made up his/her mind you agree to the outcome.
